Fulfillment of the Law
Discovering Fairness
This week at Chesterfield Baptist Church, Pastor Sammy Frame led us on a remarkable journey through the concept of fairness and the often-misunderstood role of the Pharisees. Many of us might recall learning that Pharisees were the ‘bad guys’ in biblical stories, often challenging Jesus. However, Pastor Sammy helped us see them in a new light by sharing the catastrophic events they endured and how these shaped their strict adherence to the law.
After Jerusalem’s fall in 586 BCE, the Pharisees emerged as a group committed to adhering to God’s laws. They sought to avoid the past mistakes that led to their ancestors’ suffering. As Pastor Sammy noted, sometimes the rules intended to protect can become burdens in themselves. This insight guided our understanding of Jesus’s teachings.
Connecting this history with Jesus’s teachings, Pastor Sammy took us deeper into the Sermon on the Mount. He emphasized that Jesus came not to abolish but to fulfill the law, guiding us to internalize God’s word rather than merely observing it externally. Pastor Sammy reminded us that transformation begins in the heart, where we internalize Jesus’s teachings and live them out authentically.
Join us next Sunday as we dive deeper into how these lessons apply to our lives today and explore ways to live out our faith genuinely.
